Jewish Directors on the Rise: Becca Roth
Wednesday, June 3, 6:30 pm - City of Carlsbad Library
The first installment of this multifaceted series, Jewish Directors on the Rise, highlights Director Becca Roth.
In the wake of legalization of gay marriage in her home state of New York, filmmaker Becca Roth is plagued by the fact that the majority of states in America currently have constitutional amendments banning gay marriage, including every single state in The South. Except one, North Carolina until 2012 when Amendment One is positioned to remove same sex rights.
One: A Story of Love and Equality is Becca's first feature-length documentary, and the most meaningful project she's ever embarked on. The film documents Roth and her girlfriend Melina's time in North Carolina in the two months leading up to the vote, to try to understand individuals on both sides and start a dialog among those who disagree with each other.
Following the screening of the film, Ms. Roth will share stories, answer questions and discuss how her Jewish heritage influenced the film making process.
